Posca marker case

Once you own more than a handful of Posca pens, a case stops them rolling off the desk, keeps caps on and makes the right color easy to find. Here are the kinds of Posca marker case on Amazon, what fits which Posca size, and how to store Posca pens so they still flow when you pick them up.

Short answer

For a Posca marker case, choose a hard shell case sized for PC-5M pens if you carry a small set, a canvas slot case (60 to 120 slots) for a large collection of mixed brands, or buy a Posca set that comes with its own case. Whichever you choose, keep caps clicked on and store Posca pens flat, which keeps the paint mixed and the tips from drying.

Which Posca pens fit where

Posca pens come in very different sizes, from the slim 0.7 mm PC-1M to the chunky 15 mm PC-17K. A case that suits one size may not suit another.

How to store Posca pens

Posca’s own advice is short: it recommends storing its brush pen in a horizontal position (Posca FAQ). Flat storage makes sense for the others too. Inside each Posca is a mixing ball and a valve; lying flat keeps the paint in contact with the valve and stops pigment settling at one end. A few more habits keep pens flowing:

  1. Click the cap on

A loose cap is the main cause of a dry Posca tip. Push until it clicks.

  2. Store flat, cool and shaded

Heat thickens paint and sun fades it. A drawer or closed case is ideal.

  3. Group by tip, then color

Rows of PC-5M, then PC-3M, then PC-1M, sorted light to dark, so you can find a color at a glance.

  4. Shake before use

After storage, shake until the ball rattles, then shake a little longer.

  5. Prime on scrap

Press the tip on scrap paper until the color runs solid before touching your piece.

Buying a Posca set with a case

Some Posca bundles include storage. The 62-piece gift set we list says it comes with a case, which can work out simpler than buying pens and a case separately. Compare it with the plain Posca marker sets on price per pen, and check what the case is made of in the listing photos. For what drives Posca prices, see how much Posca markers cost.

Questions people ask

How do I fill a Posca case without paying full price per pen?

The lowest price per pen usually comes from multipacks of one tip size, such as a 16 or 24 pen PC-5M set, rather than singles. Amazon, art supply chains and craft stores all sell Posca, so compare the price per pen between sellers. Prices change constantly, so we do not list them.

What is the best way to store POSCA paint pens?

Caps clicked on tight, lying flat, out of heat and direct sun. Posca specifically recommends storing its brush pen horizontally, and flat storage suits the other Posca pens too, because the paint stays mixed and the tip stays wet. Shake and prime on scrap before use if a pen has sat for a while.

Do Posca pens fit in normal marker cases?

Mostly yes. PC-1M, PC-3M and PC-5M pens are slim enough for the elastic slots in most canvas marker cases. Broad PC-7M, PC-8K and PC-17K pens are fatter and longer, so check the slot diameter the case lists, or keep broad pens in a separate pouch or box.
