Arteza markers, line by line

Arteza sells a wide range of art supplies online, and its markers cover three quite different jobs: acrylic paint markers, fabric markers and liquid chalk markers. Here is what each line is for, what an independent reviewer found, and who makes Arteza now.

Short answer

Arteza markers come in three families: acrylic paint markers (40 color chisel and fine tip sets, plus a 20 pen metallic set), dual tip fabric markers (30 colors, fine and ultra fine), and liquid chalk markers (16 colors, replaceable tips). Plaid Enterprises, maker of Mod Podge and FolkArt, acquired select assets of Arteza in March 2025.

Who makes Arteza

Arteza built its name selling art supplies online. On March 20, 2025, Plaid Enterprises announced that it had acquired select assets of Arteza, Inc., describing Arteza as a fine art brand known for high-quality art supplies and a strong eCommerce presence, and the deal as Plaid’s entry into fine art (Plaid press release). Plaid already makes FolkArt, Mod Podge and Apple Barrel. Today Arteza’s acrylic paint markers, paints, pencils, paper and canvases are sold on Plaid’s site (Plaid’s Arteza page), and Arteza markers remain on Amazon.

Arteza acrylic paint markers

The chisel set holds 40 colors, 37 classic and 3 metallic, each with a reversible chisel nib for fine lines and broad strokes, plus replacement nibs and tweezers, per the listing. It describes water-based, highly pigmented ink that is quick-drying, low-odor, UV-resistant and acid-free, for canvas, wood, glass, ceramic, plastic and select textiles.

The fine tip set is 40 colors too, 31 bright, 6 fluorescent and 3 metallic, with a fine nylon tip and 22 ml pens in a storage tray, per the listing, which names canvas, rocks, glass, ceramic and wood.

What an independent reviewer found: in Sarah Renae Clark’s pump-action comparison, Arteza’s extra fine white pen was one of the best in her white pen comparison, but the colored extra fine set was less impressive. The pens were easy to activate in one to three pumps and good for line work, but splattered more than similar markers on rocks and many colors were very transparent on plastic. For opaque white lines, Arteza is a strong pick; for coverage on rocks in color, Posca did better.

Arteza metallic markers

The metallic set has 20 water-based, acid-free, AP certified metallic acrylic markers with bullet and wide nibs, for canvas, glass, plastic, rock, ceramic, wood, stone and fabric, per the listing, which advises shaking well before use. Compare metallics from other brands on metallic paint markers.

Arteza fabric markers

The 30 color fabric set pairs a fine and an ultra fine tip on each pen, with color numbers printed on the barrels. The listing says the permanent fabric ink holds up after multiple washes if the design dries fully and is washed cold with a mild detergent. It is our detailed-line pick in best fabric markers.

Arteza liquid chalk markers

The 16 color chalk set uses water-based, AP certified erasable ink for chalkboards, whiteboards, glass, windows and mirrors, with replaceable bullet and chisel tips, per the listing. A 12 color version comes bundled with a 10 oz cleaner spray, magnetic eraser and microfiber towel. Like every liquid chalk marker, they wipe off non-porous surfaces and can stay on porous ones; see best chalk markers and how to remove chalk marker.

Questions people ask

What is a good brand of art markers?

It depends on the marker type. For opaque paint markers, Posca is the common benchmark and scored highest overall in Sarah Renae Clark’s pump-action comparison. For alcohol markers, Copic is the premium standard. Arteza, Artistro and Shuttle Art sell large, lower cost sets that suit practice, crafts and big color ranges.

Does Michaels sell copic markers?

Michaels’ range varies by store and changes over time, and we could not confirm current Copic stock on its site, so check Michaels’ website or your local store. Copic keeps a store locator on its own website.

Why are Posca markers so expensive?

Posca has not published a cost breakdown. Likely factors are the pigment paint, the valve and mixing ball in every pen, reversible tips on the fine and medium sizes, and a formula Posca says has been unchanged since 1983. Arteza and other budget brands sell larger sets at a lower cost per pen.

Who makes Arteza art supplies?

Plaid Enterprises, the Atlanta company behind FolkArt, Mod Podge and Apple Barrel, announced on March 20, 2025 that it had acquired select assets of Arteza, Inc. Arteza products are now sold on Plaid’s website, and arteza.com points to Plaid’s Arteza page.

Are paint pens and chalk markers the same thing?

No. Paint pens carry acrylic or oil-based paint that stays on porous surfaces and can be permanent. Liquid chalk markers carry water-based chalk ink made to wipe off non-porous surfaces such as glass and whiteboards. Both are opaque, but chalk markers are meant to be temporary.
