Pebeo acrylic markers

Pébéo is a paint maker, and Pebeo acrylic markers are only one of three quite different marker families: water-based acrylic Decomarkers for paper, wood and crafts, the oil-based 4Artist Marker for glossy, painterly color, and Porcelaine 150 markers you bake onto china and glass. Mixing them up leads to the wrong result, so here is what each one is for.

Pebeo acrylic markers: illustration of an acrylic paint marker drawing a bold stroke

Short answer

Pébéo acrylic markers are the Decomarker line: water-based acrylic paint markers in 0.7 mm, 1.2 mm, 4 mm chisel and round, and 5 to 15 mm tips, for paper, card, wood, metal, terracotta, plastic and canvas, per a Pébéo retailer. Pébéo’s 4Artist Marker is an oil paint marker, and Porcelaine 150 markers are baked onto china. On Amazon, the 4Artist and Porcelaine 150 lines are the easiest to find.

Pébéo’s own product menu also lists kids’ lines (Skrib markers and Setaskrib fabric markers for kids) and files the 4Artist Marker under oil paints (Pébéo).

Pébéo Decomarker: the acrylic line

DeSerres, a Canadian art retailer, lists the Decomarker range as water-based acrylic, pigment-based paint markers. Its listings say they are touch dry in about 10 to 30 minutes and fully dry in about 6 to 12 hours, and work on paper, cardboard, papier-mâché, wood, metal, terracotta, plastic and canvas. They say the pump mechanism controls the flow so the marker does not drip, colors are opaque and can be overlapped once dry, and a replacement tip sits in the cap. The 5 to 15 mm markers are described as permanent and extremely lightfast (DeSerres). Finishes include satin opaque, fluorescent and a “precious” metallic range.

Care notes from the same listings: clean up with soapy water before the paint is fully dry, clean decorated pieces with a dry cloth only, and store the markers horizontally with the cap properly closed.

Pébéo 4Artist Marker: oil paint in a pen

The 4Artist Marker is Pébéo’s oil paint marker. On Amazon it is listed in 2, 4, 8 and 15 mm round tips, with a 5 pack of 4 mm markers described as glossy, opaque and multi-surface, plus metallic sets. A glossy oil finish suits painterly illustration and mixed media; treat it as an oil paint for drying, layering and cleanup, and follow the label. For how oil and acrylic markers differ in practice, see acrylic vs oil-based paint markers.

Porcelaine 150: markers you bake

Porcelaine 150 markers are for china, porcelain and glass you want to use and wash. The listings describe a heat-resistant, microwave and dishwasher safe formula once cured, and Pébéo’s instructions call for full drying and then baking in a home oven. Follow the curing steps exactly and keep paint off rims and food areas. Our ceramic paint markers page covers bake-on markers in detail.

Questions people ask

Are pebeo acrylic paints any good?

Pébéo makes paints from kids’ lines to fine art, and its acrylic markers are sold by art retailers alongside Liquitex and Posca. We have not found an independent hands-on review of the Decomarkers to compare them directly. A retailer lists them as opaque, mixable, permanent and lightfast in the broad sizes.

Can Pébéo Decomarkers be used on canvas?

Yes. Canvas is porous and primed, so acrylic paint markers grip it well, and Pébéo’s retailer lists canvas among the Decomarker surfaces. Use broad tips for color blocks and fine tips for details, let each layer dry, and varnish the finished piece for protection.

Is the Pébéo 4Artist Marker acrylic?

No. Pébéo lists the 4Artist Marker under oil paints as an oil marker. Its Amazon listings describe a glossy, opaque finish. If you want acrylic, look for Pébéo’s Decomarker or acrylic marker line instead.
